Ben Gvir storms Al-Aqsa alongside settlers and Israeli police Israeli security minister Itamar Ben Gvir stormed the Al-Aqsa mosque complex on Monday, accompanied by Israeli settlers and military police. Video circulated widely on social media appears to show Ben Gvir performing Jewish prayers at the site, which is among the holiest sites in Islam and which Jews are forbidden to enter in line with the historic Status Quo arrangements that have governed the shared use of holy places in Jerusalem since 1949. In the video, Ben Gvir is also shown calling for the construction of a Jewish temple at the site in a speech that evoked the views of the the Temple Mount Faithful, an extremist Orthodox Jewish group that calls for the destruction of the Muslim facilities at the contested prayer complex.
