Former Israeli minister accuses Netanyahu of humiliating Israel Former Israeli defence minister Avigdor Lieberman accused Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of turning Israel into a “banana republic” amid growing criticism of US-led efforts to reach an agreement with Iran. Speaking to Channel 12’s Meet the Press, Lieberman argued that any deal leaving Iran’s leadership in power would be a “catastrophe” for Israel. Lieberman also criticised reported provisions of a potential agreement, including the possible release of frozen Iranian assets and the resumption of unrestricted Iranian oil and gas exports.
