Human Rights Watch says Israel used white phosphorus in Lebanon Human Rights Watch on Monday said Israel used white phosphorus munitions over residential areas in the southern Lebanese town of Yahmar on 3 March. The rights group said the shells were fired from the air and landed near homes in the town. The organisation said the use of white phosphorus in populated areas violates international humanitarian law because of the risk of severe burns and fires.
