Iranian navy intercepts vessel near Strait of Hormuz, state media says Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB reported that explosions heard off the coast of Sirik in southern Iran were linked to a confrontation involving a vessel that was attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz in violation of Iranian restrictions. Citing a military source, the broadcaster said the vessel was an oil tanker that was compelled to comply with a transit ban after receiving warnings from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy.
