Lawmakers call on Rubio to intervene in case of US citizen detained by Israel More than 40 US lawmakers have signed a letter urging Secretary of State Marco Rubio to intervene in the case of a US citizen who has been held in an Israeli prison without charge since June. The signatories are all Democrats, but they come from both chambers of Congress. Sama Safi, a 20-year-old Birzeit University student in the occupied West Bank, was arrested with three other female colleagues on 2 June.
