UN chief condemns Israeli attack on Beirut UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres says he “strongly” condemns Israel’s attack on Beirut, which he said “took place despite the ceasefire”. In a post on X, Guterres said the strike came “at a time when the US & Iran are expected to reach an agreement that will pave the way to a peaceful resolution of this conflict”. He warned that the conflict was “having a devastating impact on the world’s economy” and urged all sides to “show maximum restraint at this crucial moment”.
