UN warns one million women and girls lose access to support amid US aid cuts The United Nations Women agency warned on Friday that a collapse in funding for women’s organisations at a time when needs are soaring could leave at least one million women and girls without access to vital support. This comes after US President Donald Trump slashed foreign aid after taking office, leading to women in places such as Afghanistan, Gaza, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sudan and Yemen where needs are acute being deprived of adequate support. As a result, "at least one million women and girls affected by conflict and crisis have lost access to critical services and support", and this is probably "just the tip of the iceberg", Sofia Calltorp, UN Women's head of humanitarian action, told reporters in Geneva, calling the new report findings "deeply concerning".
