US to shut centre intended to monitor Gaza ceasefire as peace plans stall: Report Submitted by MEE staff on Fri, 05/01/2026 - 20:27 Closure is unlikely to have a practical impact on the ground, as it has failed to prevent Israeli violations of the ceasefire Displaced Palestinian children carry pots of food collected from a charity to their families sheltering around the rubble of buildings destroyed by the Israeli military, in the Bureij refugee camp in the central Gaza Strip, on 1 May 2026 (Eyad Baba/AFP) Off The US is closing a military centre it established in Israel to monitor the Gaza ceasefire, in a sign that the Trump administration’s focus on the destroyed enclave is waning amid the war on Iran. Reuters reported on Friday that the Civil-Military Coordination Centre (CMCC) in Israel would be shuttered and its aid and monitoring responsibilities handed to a US-commanded international security force that is supposed to deploy to Gaza. The CMCC will come under the control of the International Stabilisation Force (ISF) led by US Major General Jasper Jeffers, the report added.
