Satrapi was known for her graphic novel Persopolis , which charts the life of a girl being raised in Iran after the Islamic Revolution of 1979. The semi-autobiographical novel was later turned into an animated film, helmed by Satrapi herself, which was premiered at Cannes in 2007.
Her graphic novel series, published in English in 2003, followed an Iranian girl through the Islamic revolution and the Iran-Iraq War. The work humanized Iranians for millions.
